Gdańsk is one of the most beautiful cities of the First Republic of Poland, which, over the course of centuries, repeatedly changed hands and eventually became the Polish window to the world. Gdańsk was the home to such famous personages as Hevelius, Fahrenheit, Schopenhauer and Wałęsa. With more than a thousand years of history, Gdańsk is considered to be the richest city of Baltic Europe in terms of historical monuments. Situated upon the Motława River, the city can boast one of the most beautiful Old Town districts in Europe.
